Mexico has a good start at Maeva 2009

MANZANILLO, Colima. October 2, 2009 - Mexican teams at Norceca´s Maeva 2009 had a victorious start, specially with Mexico 3 in the men´s competition, that debuted with a surprising victory over United States, and several hours later, this young Mexican team won again, against Costa Rica; Mexico 1 also rescued a pair of victories in the first day of Norceca 2009.

 

In the first women´s game at Estadio Maeva, Canada 1 (Renee Laroque-Lean Kiving) defeated Santa Lucia (Samantha Mann-Dania Hamilton) in two sets, 21-9 and 21-13.

 

Guatemala started with a victory. Maria Orellana-Anna Ramirez defeated the youngest team in the competition, Mexico 4, in two sets, 21-7 and 21-17.

 

A match between two Mexican female teams went to a third set, when Mexico 1 (Diana Estrada-Martha Revueltas) defeated Mexico 3 (Rosario Reyes-Xitlalli Herrera), with scores 21-13, 14-21 and 15-9.

 

In the main court, Canada 1 (Renee Laroque-Leann Kinvig) lost to Cuba (Milagros Crespo-Ion Canet), that had no problem in defeating Canadians, 21-11 and 21-8.

 

United States (Beth Van Fleet-Saralyn Smith) played a good game against Puerto Rico (Yarleen Santiago-Darian Acevedo), winning in two sets, 20-22 and 15-21.

 

México 2 (Vanessa Virgen-Polet Cruz), defeated Costa Rica´s Ingrid Morales-Natalia Alfaro, also in two sets, 21-17 and 21-13.

 

Also at Miramar Stadium, Puerto Rico (Yarleen Santiago-Darian Acevedo) defeated El Salvador´s Ivonne Soler-Laura Medina, with a 21-16 and 21-10 score.

 

Canada 2 had a good result against Trinidad and Tobago. Canadians Tammy Thomas-Jamie Broder beat 21-12 and 21-12 Trinidad´s Nancy Joseph and Elki Phillip.

 

México 1 (Diana Estrada-Martha Revueltas) defeated the couple from Guatemala (Orellana-Ramirez), in two sets, in a 21-8 and 21-12 score.

 

In the men´s competition, Cuba, with starring players like Yoendry Kindelan y Yunieski Ramírez, had no problems defeating the second team of Canada (Raymond Sewell-Martin Reader), 19-21 and 17-21, after a good first set.

 

Mexico 1 defeated Mexico 2 once again- the same way that they have won in other stages of Norceca tournament-, thanks to Aldo Miramontes and Juan Virgen, who beat Ulises al Lombardo Ontiveros, 21-17 and 21-18.

 

The biggest surprise in this first day of competition was the victory of Mexico 3 over the United States. The Mexicans Malik Colossio-Pedro Arenas beat Steh Burnham-Marcin Jagoda, in three sets, 14-21, 21-16 and 15-17.

 

In the first men´s match held at Estadio Miramar, Nicaragua (Winston Calderon-Omar Lopez), lost to El Salvador, in three sets, 17-21, 21-19, 11-15.

 

One of the best matches this day was played in Estadio Miramar, where México 4 (Oscar Cardenas-Edgar Barajas) defeated Guatemala (Jorge Bolaños-Erick Garrido) in three sets, 18-21, 23-21, 9-15.

 

In the men´s side, Costa Rica´s doubles Andrés López-Bryan Monge, defeated the men´s team from Sant Lucia (Joseph Clercent-Dayne Williams), by 21-11 and 21-15.

 

Canada 1 (Josh Binstock-Matt Zbysewski) beat the team of Trinidad and Tobago (Daniels Williams-Fabian Whitfield), 21-10 and 21-11.

 

Mexico 2 (Ulises anda Lombardo Ontiveros) had its first victory, when they defeated Guatemala´s Jorge Bolaños-Erick Garrido, in two sets, 15-21 and 15-21.

 

Cuba had its second victory in the tournament, when they defeated Canada 1 in Miramar Stadium, in two sets, 21-17 and 21-19.

 

In the last matches of the day in Maeva Stadium, Mexico 3 won its second game of the day, 14-21 and 14-21; minutes after, Puerto Rico defeated in a very competitive game to El Salvador, 18-21, 21-16 and 16-14, and finally, for the men´s competition, Mexico 1 had its second triumph, 21-15 and 21-06, over Mexico 4.
